Spike's First Dove Hunt! Greenville North Carolina
On my recent trip to North Carolina to visit my sister Michelle. I had the chance to go hunting with my brother-in-law Corky and a few of his friends from Mooresville, NC. This was a very interesting hunt. The place we hunted was what was called a registered field hunt. The farmer planted 2 huge fields with early corn. He also planted the outside rings of the fields with Sunflowers. The corn was then harvested in alternating strips. The hunt organizers then went out and placed little marker flags up in blind or shooting positions. The hunters paid at the registration tents and received a piece of paper with permission from the land owners to hunt the property and a yellow marker flag to mark their blind or spot of choice. If you did not bring a ATV to search out your hunting location, there were vans available to shuttle you out to the various fields hunting locations. you could just ride with the van and signal them when you found a spot you liked and you set up your shooting position. The limit is 12 doves per person. The hunt managers also had people driving ATV's loaded with coolers of Ice Cold Beverages, (sorry, no beer!) and also had hotdogs and burgers available to those in need. The beverage ATV's also did a great job of keeping the birds moving! Our party of 5 shot the 60 bird limit and many, many more shot shells that that. The next day we had a terrific grilled dove party in Michelle and Corky's backyard! There were more that 150 hunters at the hunt and most had a great day of shooting. It was hot though. Definitely NOT fat man's weather! It did make the beer flow better when we got home to Tarboro.
Here are some of the Photo's of the hunt!
Always,
